Overview:
Everhomes, in collaboration with SILSDA, NDISDA and SDA Conferences and Events,  is hosting a series of educational events in North Queensland (Mackay, Townsville, and Cairns) to clarify Specialist Disability Accommodation  eligibility, address common misconceptions, and prepare participants for upcoming changes in the NDIS landscape. Many NDIS participants and their support networks may be unaware of their eligibility or believe they cannot live with their loved ones in suitable housing. This session aims to dispel these myths and provide crucial information to help people access the housing they need.

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the eligibility criteria for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding.

  • Recognize the benefits of separating Supported Independent Living (SIL) and SDA providers and why this is an NDIS priority.

  • Prepare for the changes coming from the NDIS review and what they mean for housing and service provision.

  • Learn practical steps to help eligible participants navigate the process of obtaining SDA funding and finding appropriate housing.

Dan Acfield 

Everhomes 

As co-founder and CEO of Specialist Disability Accommodation provider Everhomes, Dan Acfield is passionate about helping people living with disability to live with as much independence and dignity as possible. 

He strongly believes in the capacity of Specialist Disability Accommodation to improve the lives of people needing accessible or special housing, and is passionate about its capacity to help deinstitutionalise accommodation for people living with disabilities in Australia.

Prior to Everhomes, Dan worked for many years advocating for the rights and wellbeing of children in care and adults with impaired capacity, and this background has been foundational in bringing a strong human rights focus to Everhomes’ approach.
